Presidential Election Statement

We are very pleased with the success of President-Elect Biden and Vice President-Elect Harris. We congratulate them on running a positive campaign and applaud the appreciative comment of Anne Hildago, the Mayor of Paris – “Welcome Back, America.- ”as illustrative of international support. It is time for healing our democracy and putting away mendacity, misogyny, racism, homophobia, ableism, and science denial. It is also a time to end governance by tweet, divisiveness, and a policy of personal aggrandizement, name-calling, bullying, and self-dealing. Additionally, national and international leadership and administrative competence need to be restored and damaged government agencies and bureaus repaired. We are confident that Joe Biden and Kamala Harris will work every day to achieve these essential changes.

We also express our appreciation to the state Secretaries of State who stood up publicly to explain the counting and processing procedures and provide assurances of the care and thoroughness of the elections process. Perhaps it is time for a Federal Elections Commission to standardize voting procedures, especially to avoid many of the confusions that now exist state by state.

The American Academy of Social Work and Social Welfare, and its membership stand ready to volunteer our expertise – now and in the future – to assist the President-Elect and Vice President-Elect in their vision and task to restore the United States to a country characterized by competence, caring, and generosity, and their continuous work for social good and social justice.
