Virtual Policy Briefing Discusses Early Education and Child Welfare
November 14, 2024 — The Brown School at Washington University in St. Louis and the Academy hosted a policy briefing aimed to address the intersection between early childhood education and the child welfare system. After opening remarks from Academy President and NYU Silver School of Social Work Dean Michael A. Lindsey, PhD, panelists discussed the impact of educational access on child development, and emphasized the importance of collaboration between education and welfare systems in supporting families.
“Building services and systems that respond to families as they show up is really hard,” said panelist, Professor and Director of the Institute for Research on Poverty at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and Fellow Katherine Magnuson, PhD. “And that sort of cross- system building and implementation is where the research needs to go.”
