Sydney Hans, Ph.D., is the Frank P. Hixon Distinguished Service Professor at the University of Chicago School of Social Service Administration. Her research examines the experiences of marginalized parents and seeks to understand how infants’ relationships with caregivers influence their development and wellbeing later in life. Her studies have focused on the development of young children whose parents use illicit substances, suffer from major mental disorders, or begin childbearing at young ages. Professor Hans is particularly interested in designing and testing interventions to benefit infants, young children, and their families. Her research has been supported by numerous foundations and federal agencies.
