Kristen Slack, Ph.D., is a Professor in the Sandra Rosenbaum School of Social Work, and an Affiliate of the Institute for Research on Poverty at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Dr. Slack has conducted research in three primary areas: (1) the interconnections among child protective services (CPS) systems and other social welfare and public assistance systems; (2) the link between various forms of economic hardship and child maltreatment; and (3) the evaluation of policies and programs designed to prevent maltreatment, or to enhance the safety, permanency, and well-being of children involved in public child welfare systems. She has conducted numerous process and implementation evaluations, as well as large-scale randomized controlled trials to assess policy or program impact. Her research has been funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the National Institutes of Health, and the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation.
