“When it comes to binge drinking, social factors exert a significant influence,” says Fellow and scholar John Clapp. “A person is at higher risk for binge drinking if they are surrounded by peers who are binge drinking or are in a setting in which heavy drinking is more socially acceptable—like a party or bar.”
Alcohol is the 3rd most common lifestyle related death in the US according to the National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence, and some 80,000 people die of it each year. Clapp is an expert and leading scholar on problem drinking and he shares his research and insight on binge drinking and alcohol usage here.
