JSSWR: Annual Letter from the Editor-in-Chief

It was wonderful to see so many of you in New Orleans at the Society for Social Work and Research (SSWR) annual conference last month. I continue to be impressed by the breadth, depth, and caliber of social work scholarship, and I’m particularly energized by the scholarship emerging around the 12 Grand Challenges for Social Work.

The grand challenges are the subject of a special section appearing in the forthcoming issue of the Journal of the Society for Social Work and Research (JSSWR), and in 2018 we’ll devote a special issue to the Grand Challenge to Ensure Healthy Development for All Youth Through the Power of Prevention. We invite contributions to this special issue. Please see our Call for Papers for submission criteria and more information; submissions are due by Oct. 1, 2017.

As JSSWR enters its eighth year of publication, I’m pleased to share that it now is abstracted and indexed in the following Clarivate Analytics services: Social Sciences Citation Index®, Journal Citation Reports/Social Sciences Edition, and Current Contents®/Social and Behavioral Sciences. We also anticipate receiving an impact factor score this year.

These accomplishments were made possible, in large part, by the vision and leadership of JSSWR founding Editor-in-Chief Mark Fraser and Managing Editor Diane Wyant, who both stepped down last spring. Please join me in thanking Mark and Diane for their excellent work.

I also appreciate the tremendous work of our associate editors and peer reviewers, who graciously share their time and expertise. Because of them, JSSWR can boast an average turnaround time of just 38 days from submission to first decision. We are continually looking to increase our roster of reviewers and invite you to join us. Please see our Call for Reviewers for more information.

As SSWR’s official flagship publication, JSSWR is dedicated to presenting rigorous, original research (both qualitative and quantitative) on social problems, programs, and policies. We are honored to publish research by both established and emerging scholars.

I look forward to continuing to work with you to strengthen social work research and advance knowledge in social work and allied professions.

Editor-in-Chief
